An armillary sphere is a model of objects in the sky, consisting of a framework of rings centred on the Earth or the Sun which represent lines of longitude and latitude, along with other important astronomical features.
Armillaries were invented separately in ancient Greece and ancient China and used later in the Islamic world and Medieval Europe.
